The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is due to hold a hearing on Tuesday, January 10 to approve the nomination of John Kelly, retired marine general and former US Southern Command chief, for the position of secretary of homeland security.
US President-elect Donald Trump announced General John Kelly as his choice for the new administration in December. Kelly was responsible for US military activities in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.
